Rider Training

At Gopher Dunes we offer a safety training program for people who have never rode a dirt bike or ATV before. The student is suited up in all of the proper safety riding gear and fitted with the bike/ATV to best fit their needs. The course starts off with the very basics such as; proper gear, safety and getting to know the machine.

Once they are ready to try riding for the first time they are taken through a step by step process by the instructor in a flat grass field. As the rider progresses they will move onto our beginner track/trail.

This training can be done in group or private lessons, and the rider can use their own bike/ATV if they already have one.

After completing safety training lessons students are taken on a guided trail tour.

Your facility sounds awesome and we sure could use something like that here. We have A LOT of kids and parents who ride in Holland Landing (in fields) and I know they would definately go to a track if we had one like yours around here. Congratulations on the successes of your track and business. I'm sure a lot of hard work and perseverance (along with sweat and tears) went into making the place as great as it is today. Thanks for adding me to your newsletter list. I know that we'll be visiting at some point, this summer.

My three children just spent the past weekend at Gopher Dunes enrolled in private MX lessons with Derek Schuster. I just wanted to take the time to write this short note in appreciation of our stay at this fine facility.

We all learned more in two days with Derek than we learned the entire year of last with our local area instructors. Not only was Derek very knowledgeable and professional, he managed to teach our kids in a very constructive manner while keeping things fun.

Just an informal note of thanks to all of you for the wonderful experience my son Jason and I had during our 4 day camp at GoPHER DUNES July 11-14.

The experience would be one I would recommend to any father and son, from the home cooked meals and hospitality from Barb to the expert and thorough instruction from Derek and Pierce - Pierce made everything look sooooo easy!!!! - even Frank stopped by every once and awhile to ensure everyone was having a good time, while maintaining excellent track conditions for the lessons.

Our 1 day group motocross schools will be scheduled through out the spring and early summer of 2010. This will be the 6th season of Gopher Dunes Motocross schools by Suzuki. Our head instructor for all schools is Derek Schuster and we have a strong group of helpers along with guest appearances from Team Rockstar OTSFF Suzuki to help out every once in a while.

Private, Semi-private, and Family Motocross lessons are also available with Derek. We strongly recommend that motocross racers first take a group school with Derek, so we can build on their skills learned and go into depth with further aspects of riding. For those “true beginners” who want to learn more about safety and some of the basics, we will set you up with an instructor for some one-on-one time until your comfortable enough to move forward with more intense and in-depth group training!

2010 Class Dates:

Saturday, May 8 - 65cc

Saturday, June 19 - 50cc

Saturday, July 10 - 85cc & up

Motocross instruction includes:

Stretching, Balance, Bike setup and preparation, Body position, Braking, Cornering, Jumping, Whoops, Starts, Fitness/nutrition instruction and Riding and Racing strategies. Several activities will be added in through the day to keep things fun as this is why we ride motorcycles to begin with.

Training will start at 11 am and complete at approximately 4 pm. It is the riders responsibility to supply their own lunch.
